Standing Committees

Ten committees, one body of work.

The work of the AACA is carried out by a set of standing committees established by Executive Council. Each has defined duties and a rotating slate of appointed and elected members. Any active member is welcome to participate and stand for election.

Anatomical Services Committee

The Anatomical Services Committee promotes the activities of members who administer institutional willed body donor programs, who sit on state anatomical boards and committees, and who prepare or utilize cadaveric materials for education and research.

The committee plans and implements the Anatomical Services Symposium when scheduled, and has authored the AACA's policy statement on body exhibits and the best-practices document for running a body donor program.

Bylaws Committee

Governance · Appointed annually

The Bylaws Committee reviews, drafts, and recommends amendments to the Association's Bylaws. Proposed changes are brought before the Council and the membership at the Annual Business Meeting in accordance with the amendment procedure set out in the Bylaws themselves.

Career Development Committee

The Career Development Committee (CDC) supports the professional growth of clinical anatomists at all academic ranks and fosters the development of quality anatomical research and scholarly educational endeavors.

The CDC coordinates the judging of student platform and poster presentations at the Annual Scientific Meeting, organizes the Mentor Reception, and administers the Career Development Symposium. The Chair presents presentation awards at the annual banquet.

Clinical Anatomical Terminology Committee

The Clinical Anatomical Terminology (CAT) Committee investigates the usage of clinical anatomical terminology and actively promotes the dissemination of equivalent clinical and anatomical terms for identical anatomical structures or concepts.

The Committee maintains free web-based terminology resources, publishes regularly in Clinical Anatomy, collects and vets clinical anatomical terms, and plans the Clinical Anatomical Terminology Symposium. The TA2 viewer is endorsed by the AACA and the Pan-American Association of Anatomy.

Educational Affairs Committee

The Educational Affairs Committee promotes the teaching of clinical anatomy, tracks national and international curricular changes, and develops educational initiatives that benefit members, healthcare professionals, the educational community, and the general public.

The Committee disseminates best-practice data and recommendations for anatomical education, and has produced landmark publications including A Clinical Anatomy Curriculum for the Medical Student of the 21st Century (1996) and The Clinical Anatomy of Several Invasive Procedures (1999).

Oversight body Reports to Council

The Financial Affairs Committee advises the Council on the fiscal responsibilities of the Association, oversees the annual budget, and reviews investments and reserves. It works closely with the Treasurer and the Executive Director.

Journal Committee

Liaises with · Editors of Clinical Anatomy

The Journal Committee advises Council on matters related to Clinical Anatomy, the official peer-reviewed journal of the AACA and the British Association of Clinical Anatomists. It serves as the liaison between the Association, the Editorial Board, and the publisher.

Meeting Oversight & Program Planning Committee

Comprised of · Officers, Committee Chairs, Local Hosts

The Meeting Oversight and Program Planning Committee is responsible for the overall organization, general content, and budget of each Annual Scientific Meeting and Postgraduate Course, and sets the Association's long-term programmatic objectives over a three-year horizon.

The Committee solicits formal invitations and decides the location, venue, duration, and dates for proposed annual meetings. It oversees abstract review and selection, special speakers, and program content delivery.

The Membership Committee reviews all applications for membership and makes written recommendations to the Council and Membership for action at the Annual Business Meeting. The Committee consists of the President-Elect (Chair), the Past President, one member appointed by the President and approved by Council, and two members elected at the Annual Business Meeting.

The Nominating Committee identifies and places into nomination suitable candidates for election as Officers and Councilors of the Association, ensuring a continuous, qualified leadership pipeline.

Any active member can join a committee.
